Out of 5, I give them a 6! Wow! That's FANTASTIC! What a great album! They scat as well as anyone I've ever heard! Song after song, Sixth Wave crashes into your head with unforgettable harmonies and passions. They are my favorite a cappella jazz group of the 21st century. Thanks for the CD. Enjoyed it much! Good voices, charts and sound. I just finished listening to the Sixth Wave CD for the third time and I am ... stunned by the breadth of talent in the group ...really impressed by the arrangements by Gary (Rosen) and Elin, chord structures that had goose-bumps dancing ...It's no surprise that they won the competition. The programming is excellent ... I can hear the same kind of excitement in their work as I heard and felt when The Singers Unlimited first began to experiment and record. Don't miss this vocalese sextet that rocks, swings, and croons with a terrific degree of precision and contagious enthusiasm. Wow! Impressive. Difficult stuff! What an electrifying performance! This is an acapella singing sextet that is really fun to listen to. Not limited to the jazz repertoire (in the tradition of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and the Manhattan Transfer), they also serve up some fine rock/pop songs... [Every] aspect of this group from arrange- ments, change of pace, visual presence, solo quality, etc. is first class. Sixth Wave is one of the tightest groups I've had the pleasure of working with. Gary [Rosen's] arrangements are mindblowing, and the group performs them with incredible agility and grace. Each member adds a unique vocal texture, and these weave together to achieve powerful moments of sublime a cappella music. Great chops, great charts and an infectious sense of camaraderie. Six of L.A.'s best vocalists and arrangers pool their talent to form one of the tightest and most playful ensembles around. Wonderful arrangements, great singers... This is a cappella at the highest level. I played three tracks on this morning's "Vocal Chords" show - "Fragile", "Strange Magic" and your wonderful take on the "William Tell Overture". More to come next week, and in the weeks to follow. I foresee playing this CD for a long, long time... Individually, their voices are awesome. Together, their music is so good it gives you chills, with complicated harmonies, delightful melodies and funky instrumental sounds. Sixth Wave puts on a high-energy show that is perfect for any event, large or small. |
